Now through February 28, 2009, General Mills Inc. ("General Mills") is searching for people in Birmingham, Alabama; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Memphis, Tennessee who are uplifting individuals, families, and neighborhoods. Through the Feeding Dreams Local Hero Monthly Awards Program General Mills hopes to inspire others to follow the lead of the unsung heroes dedicated to serving their families and communities in a variety of areas.
Feeding Dreams Local Heroes will be recognized monthly and will each receive a $500 Visa Check Card, a supply of General Mills products, and $1,000 to donate to a 501(c)(3) charity of their choice. An additional 30 nominees will receive $100 gift cards and gift baskets.

When evaluating requests, the Feeding Dreams review committee will favor individuals who meet the following criteria:
- demonstrate a strong and sustained commitment to family-oriented, community service (examples include preparing meals for the elderly, volunteering at a soup kitchen or participating in neighborhood clean-ups, and volunteering at churches and schools);
- illustrate an approach to community service that focuses on the little, everyday acts of service that make a difference; and
- have a positive impact on the lives of others or on their community.
